Sales Force Automation - Catalogue Publisher
Tecnosoft was involved in the design and development of Sales Force
Automation (SFA) modules as an integral part of a major redesign
of this catalogue publisher's information systems. The overall redesign
was directed to support for remote access and functional enhancements
to all customer-facing applications. A new IT architecture was required,
as well as major developments for the individual application components.
SFA is a client-server database application developed using GUI
tools with PowerBuilder v4.0 as the front end, and Sybase system
10.a on RS6000. The system was developed to store sales and client
information and displayed on laptops/desktops connected through
modems to the central system. Modules supported are maintenance
of sales history, sales forecasting, material maintenance, and product
catalog. The system is mainly focused on the company's sales personnel
to apprise them of various types of products information.
Tecnosoft services included GUI design, development and integration
of the system with the central system of the corporation. The environment
is composed of MS Windows, Sybase 10.a, PowerBuilder v4.0.
Contact Management System - Vertical Industry
Solution Provider
Emerging technologies provided numerous opportunities for this
IT solutions provider to improve the operations of its public safety
agency customers. Although they had a broad range of skills within
their internal development staff, the breadth of expertise required
for the desired comprehensive solution went beyond their capabilities.
To gain expertise in new areas, and to enhance existing resources,
the company contracted with Tecnosoft.
Tecnosoft provided a wide range of software engineering services
to assist in the design, development and support of their state-of-the-art
suite of products. The product suite includes a contact management
and 911 response management system for public safety agencies such
as Police Departments and Emergency Communications Centers. The
products include relational database, web, and GIS technologies.
The development environment consists of Oracle 8.05, Delphi4, Win
32 SDK, Visual Source Safe 6, Windows NT4&2000, Novell Netware,
and Data Junction7.
Tecnosoft's responsibilities included:
- Identifying customer requirements
- Prototyping and developing new product modules and associated
database objects
- Application testing and documentation
- Database performance tuning
- Software configuration management
- Customer technical support
- Developing a library of reusable code for Delphi components
- Developing extraction, conversion and validation software for
data upload/download to legacy systems
- Interfacing to an electronic forms/workflow system.
Data Capture System - US Census Bureau
The Data Capture System for the 2000 Census (DCS2000) uses automatic
character recognition technology to convert information printed
by hand and check marks into digital format. For the DCS2000 project,
132 million census forms consisting of more than 1.5 billion pages
had to be processed in just 100 days. When Lockheed Martin won the
contract to perform these services for the US Census Bureau, Tecnosoft
was brought in as a key subcontractor to conduct detailed analysis
and design of the database system for the project.
A constitutional mandate with a fixed timeline made this project
one of most challenging any contractor could face. Given the critical
nature of the database for the success of this project, the complexity
and importance Tecnosoft's efforts would be difficult to overstate.
These efforts included:
- Planning, coordination and administration of the development,
test and production databases to ensure accurate, appropriate
and effective use of data
- Capacity planning, performance tuning and production support
- Establishing the backup strategy for the 24/7 production shop,
including development and implementation of automated backup systems
- Providing technical and management guidance and support to developers
in implementing applications on client server systems
- Formulating policies, procedures and standards relating to database
management.
- Advising on data administration and development support relating
to existing and emerging methods, standards and technology
- Training systems users.
